Miley Cyrus, has a concert scheduled for Oct. 29 at Target Center. The stop is part of a newly announced nationwide fall tour that is using a paperless ticket procedure in hopes of averting the ticket hoarding that angered many of the teen singing sensation's fans.
In April 2008, Gov. Tim Pawlenty signed the "Hannah Montana bill" outlawing ticket-buying software that enables users to grab tickets before much of the public can and then resell them for $1,000 or more.
When the software was used for tickets to Cyrus' Twin Cities show in October 2007, legislators responded to angry parents whose kids were unable to pay the inflated prices.
Ticketmaster, which is handling online ticketing for nearly all of the current tour's locations, says on its website that it is turning to paperless ticketing "to ensure true fans get fair access to seats at face value."
According to tour officials, here's how it works:
• Buy tickets online or by phone using a credit card.
• Bring that credit card and a valid government-issued ID to the venue on the night of the show.
• Go to the entrance, present the ID and credit card. Entry is allowed after the credit card is swiped and after a seat-locator slip is printed.
• All members of the ticket purchaser's party must be present at the same time to enter.
A video tutorial on the process is offered on www.ticketmaster.com/mileycyrus, along with instructions that say "paperless ticketing requires that the cardholder who purchased the tickets presents their credit card at the door for admission."
